It just wasn't anywhere near as good as I expected. I know she is an artist as was her mother but it wanders from the plot a lot. On Chapel Sands is a mystery solved through empathy and interpretation. Two narratives run through it: the mother's childhood tale; and Cumming's own pursuit of the truth.
